The Odia Cultural Association of London (OCAL) serves as a vibrant hub for Odia expatriates residing in London and beyond, uniting individuals from various corners of the city.
Our primary objective is to be a nurturing source of Odisha’s rich and diverse culture, ensuring its preservation and passing it on to current and future generations of Odia members within the British society.
At OCAL, we provide a platform that showcases Odisha’s cultural treasures, encompassing captivating dance forms like Odissi and Chau, the melodic Odia language, as well as its distinct dialects such as Sambalpuri and Ganjami. Furthermore, we take pride in presenting folk art forms like Pattachitra and Pipli Chandua to enthusiastic audiences in the UK.
Of utmost significance, OCAL actively supports the propagation of the Jagannath Culture. We wholeheartedly endorse and promote the endeavors of the Jagannath Temple Society UK, highlighting the remarkable literary works of luminaries like Jayadeva and Bhakta Salabega, the enchanting genre of Palli Kabita (poetry), soul-stirring Bhajans, captivating Pala performances, and numerous other art forms associated with this rich heritage.
Over the course of 16 remarkable years, OCAL has been instrumental in bringing Odisha’s traditional festivals, such as Raja, Utkal Diwas, and Boita Bandana, to the forefront, celebrating these joyous occasions with fervour among the Odia community and other members of the Indian expat society residing in the UK.
Moreover, OCAL actively participates in various charitable initiatives, extending support to those affected by natural disasters in Odisha. Through our dedicated efforts, we strive to make a positive impact and provide aid to the affected communities.
